At the core of the Kyiyo Pow Wow is a space bursting with tradition, including a wide array of people from multiple tribes, their families and their friends. The Kaimin photo team set up a portrait booth as a backdrop for dancers to express themselves through photographs. The Images on this page are all shot by Chris Lodman.

Rylan and his father Rolan Morning Owl competed in the powwow. There are a part of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs in Oregon.

Starry Knight is of Crow descent from Hardin, Montana, and said the powwow was very well-organized.

Rody Poor Eagle is a member of the Siksika Nation and does grass dance. He made his own regalia because he wanted to dance but none of his family members knew how so he taught himself.


Charlene Plume is from Stand Off, Alberta, Canada, is an enrolled member of Blood Tribe, and makes stand-up headdresses like the one she is wearing. She said it was how the Blackfeet were recognized by other nations. Recently, Plume made a stand-up headdress for Academy Award winning actress Lily Gladstone.
